At the New Living Museum Space with: John Tursi, James Correa, Edwig Stinvil, Paula Brooks, Rushane Brown, Frank Boccio and Sunner Soohoo

Celebrating the opening of its new space on the grounds of Creedmoor Psychiatric Center in Queens, the Living Museum is hosting “Making Space,” an exhibition featuring dozens of artworks by members of the Creedmoor community. The tantalizing image featured above is the work of the wonderfully talented and hugely inventive John Tursi. Below are several more artworks we photographed during our visit, all exploring “space, place, connectivity and connection.”

James Correa, Jr‘s tranquil, symmetrical sites

Edwig Stinvil’s surreal, mysteriously unsettling landscape

Paula Brooks‘ vibrantly colorful castle

Rushane Brown‘s striking geometric abstraction

Frank Boccio‘s ornate mixed-media assemblage

Sunner Soohoo’s ominously frantic scene

An art studio and gallery, the Living Museum is dedicated to presenting art created by patients at the Queens-based Creedmoor Psychiatric Center. Its current director, Dr. Mitra Reyhani Ghadim, oversees the space, mentors participating artists and curates exhibitions.

Located at 80-45 Winchester Boulevard in Bellerose, Queens, the Living Museum welcomes visitors by appointment. To arrange a visit, call 718-264-3490 to speak with a staff member.
